What if we rethink how a monument works?
The Peace Corps has an esteemed history recruiting volunteers in the name of international service. A parallel legacy exists of those that were left behind waiting, remembering, and missing their volunteer. This project is about maintaining that connection with volunteers abroad and people at home.
The project serves as a way to visualize the sheer commitment of the volunteers gathering a way to measure who, where, and for how long people are volunteering. The project is built of two interconnected parts: an interactive monument in which the two years abroad counts down and a responsive light canopy that registers the return of volunteers.
